The Mac’s not happy
Unfortunately, at the beginning of the week my Mac’s video output died. The screen stays black although the computer boots up fine. the DVI output is also unusable. After a bit of research and debugging, I’m almost convinced that it’s suffering from a manufacturing defect of the NVIDIA graphics processor and Apple will hopefully fix it for free. I’ll find out in a few hours.
PS: Image above is a corrupt flash file I came across a while back. Funky stuff.
SAD UPDATE: After over one week I got some bad news today: apparently there’s more issues with my Mac besides the video output. Earliest ETA is, unfortunately, Wednesday. Macs are great when they work, not so great when they don’t (mine’s been serviced 3 times in less than 2 years, and I’ve had the display / dvd drive / wireless card and now the logic board /
who knows what else changed power board). Not happy about this.
RESOLUTION: After almost 2 weeks in service the Mac is back. I’m now waiting for a hard-drive failure (actually no, not really) and I can then claim that I have an altogether new Macbook Pro then the one I got less than 2 years ago. I’m seriously thinking about writing a formal complaint to Apple about this, not that I expect it to actually lead to any results.
